The highlight of our Colorado road trip was a trek into the Crystal Mill from Marble, CO. The Crystal Mill is the much photographed 1892 mill perched on a rock above the Crystal River. The ghost town of Crystal is a mile or so beyond the mill.
The road from Marble is an unmaintained, fairly mild track with a few ups and downs. Part of it is a narrow shelf road but there are ample pull-outs for opposing traffic. Suitable for any stock Land Rover. It's more interesting in the snow (and more beautiful too).
Marble, CO is about 45 miles south of Glenwood Springs (I-70) just off of Hwy 133. If you are in the area, it's a very worthwhile venture.
Here is a file containing waypoints and track for the road from Marble to Crystal.
