Days 1 and 2 - left early Friday. Drove through Lassen where there was snow and lots of smoke from the fires. Made it all the way to Lava Beds where we stayed 2 nights. Went wheeling up the backside of Glass Mountain and explored lots of caves. Found a lake and went swimming too! Nothing extreme though. My favorite part was mountain biking down Glass Mountain. I also liked catching a frog and 2 gopher snakes. We also saw 20 lizards, 3 jackrabbits, and a dead skunk in the middle of the road.

Day 3

Drove to Boise. Ran out of gas along the way, had to fill from jerry cans. Pretty remote. Coming up Hwy 20 about 20 miles from the border of Idaho -- disaster. Radiator started boiling over. Lost about 2 gallons of liquid in the form of steam. Dad burned his hand loosening the cap like you aren't supposed to. Called AAA+, they said since we didn't have RV insurance they couldn't tow trailer to Land Rover dealer. Decided to let engine cool, filled with water, and drove on. No heating problems until we hit town and started stop and go traffic needle started rising. After calling Cerrone's we are heading to Land Rover dealer to get it checked out in the morning. Don't want to overheat in the park!

Saw lots of alkali lakes, trees, and desert. Plus a dead deer and a dead porcupine in the middle of the road. No more smoke though...
