4th of July week we head towards Yellowstone in a "RV style" vacation from San Francisco. Teaming up with a friend who has a big RV and jeep he is towing -- we will have our pop-up trailer. No camping reservations yet -- will be doing the "first come first serve" thing in the Park with our fingers crossed...

Planning on heading up via Lassen and Boise, taking a more direct route back.

What places along the way are worth exploring? Where is there some fun, "1 day" style wheeling to do?

We did a similar trip in September 2005 except that we included a little off-roading. Our first night camp was at Lye Creek CG in the Santa Rosa Range, Humboldt National Forest, NV. The road up over the pass to the CG is a little narrow, steep and windy so maybe not too "large mortorhome" friendly but you should have no trouble making it with your Disco/trailer.

Silver City, ID (SW corner) is a really neat ghost town/tourist town. Lots of shops and old buildings. The catch is it's on a 4x4 road from the Oregon end. Level 1 or 2 so not difficult, just narrow with a few sharp curves. The road in from Boise is paved most of the way and is a better gravel road for the last part as I recall.

Another spot we enjoyed was the Craters of the Moon National Monument, ID, off US20. It's about mid-way between Boise and Yellowstone.

We also camped one night in Grand Teton National Park. That park offers some great hiking and has a nice campground or two. We were tent camping so I'm not sure what the accommodations are for trailers/RVs.

Here is a link to our pictures of the trip. (http://www.pbase.com/brhunt/yellowstone05)

Have a great trip!!

Is this the same jeep you had to recover last time? You better make sure the Rover is all geared up!
