SO... I was thinking to take my long weekend off during the Memorial day weekend and wind my way down along the coast, visiting some neat places, seeing new sights, just making a weekend of it ending at some point at Oceano Dunes to play around in the sand and enjoy the warmer weather by the beach with my wife. Anyone with some experience at Pismo care to join me for some sand kicking Sat or Sunday down south? I'd go at it alone and will if I have to, but I've never been before and I dont even have so much as a good strap with me yet, *EHEM* TONY *EHEM*. Sorry, clearing my throat. Anyway, just an informal, open invitation for anyone without plans that weekend.

Depending on my schedule, I may be able to join you Luis. I even have a recovery strap that is waiting for its first use. Someone with previous experience at Pismo would be nice too. I've never driven on sand before, have you? Since we need to air down there needs to be a way for everyone to air up after playing in the sand. On my iPod I have a video of NCLR at Pismo, but I can't remember where I got it. Probably off of LRRForums somewhere. It looks awesome.
BTW, are you looking to replace your avatar?

Not to be a party pooper, but I hear Ocean Dunes is a Zoo over memorial Day. If you do decide to go get your reservations in early as it fills up quick.

I am. Just need to catch my LR3 doing something worthy of one. The Captn Morgan gulch run at Hollister during March MORG had a few good picture moments but I was running solo and didn't get any good pictures, except the few ones you took of me ;) Maybe during May's MORG we'll get a chance at something worthy!!!!

Do we need to make reservations to play in the sand or are you refering to Hotels and such?

I know they have Camping limitations, but not sure about day use only, it may be wide open. Just keep your eyes out for those dune buggys and don't forget your flag!

Flag...what flag? Ok so I read on their website that flags are mandatory. Where can I buy this flag? How do I mount it on a stock LR3? I read somewhere to buy a magnet based CB antenna. Does that give me the 8' requirements? Don't want to get all the way down there only to have my trip ruined by last minute details. Advice?
theres atv rentals right on street before u jump on the beach.Flags are like $10 and just use a few zip ties or duck tape

Do you have a link to that info Luis? I was wondering the same thing about the flags. I wouldn't mind finding (or making) a LR flag to go under the orange flag.

Well, the info on the SVRA rules is fairly straight forward. Need to display a flag on a 8 foot whip that is either red or yellow in color.
HOWEVER, I just KNOW I have read somewhere else a lot of good info and posts about just this same problem and I can't find it. I do think however, if I remember right, that the solution given on the other post was to use a magnetic CB base and attach flag there, or use Zip ties to the ARB bumper or to the A brush bar, or to the ladders on the back or to the roof rack, BUT I HAVE NONE OF THOSE YET. How frustrating.

Firestik (http://www.firestik.com/Catalog/flags.htm) has flags and mounts. Anything over 5' is considered "over sized" for shipping purposes, and they recommend a group buy for something like this. Maybe we can get some club members to go in on this.

I zip tied my flag to my rear ladder, worked perfect. If you don't have a ladder, I have no idea how to attach one to an LR3.

should be able to duct tape it to your spare tire, or even to the side of the rig somehow...
Magnets don't work on aluminum...

Just so it is out there, I have some print friends and am currently working on a sample of the "Special Vehicle" crest version of the club logo (the round one is too expensive to do for their maching) on an orange or red flag that will be for sale thru the club store.
I wanted one for Pismo, so got it going and decided that I could see them to members, repay cost and any proceeds can go to the club.
As soon as I get a photo, I'll be posting it for all to see.....I'd like to use them at Hollister too, to designate trail leaders, although not as high up in the air....

Luis, I have a flag I used at Pismo last year, you're welcome to come by Mexxi's and pick it up and you are also welcome to use any of my recovery gear (shackles, strap, etc...)
And the roof on the LR3 is made of steel, so you would be able to use an antenna (which I have too).
lemme kno

I believe I'll take you up on your offer, Enrique. My wife and I REALLY like the food at Mexxi's so we'll probably meet there for lunch or dinner soon and meet with you. I'll contact you to plan as we get close to the trip!

Count me in for one of those flags Mike, I can't wait to see the design.
