Well, the Snow Run @ Shaver Lake this year was challenging!

A return to Shaver Lake trip this Summer should be challenging also, but not in a "Stuckfest" way! :D

Gathering interest for Return to Shaver Lake in June for now! Pls post if you are interested!

Shaver Lake/Bald Mounting is one of my favorite wheeling/camping places. This is one of the two trips I have in mind for 2008 (completed snow trip and now this summer trip).

Last year's pre-run of Shaver Lake/Bald Mountain in June was a blast, stayed at Camp Edison, small manageable group (7-8 rigs) Will's Shrek, Gary LR3, Brian's D2, my D1, Carlos/Enrique on RRC, and locals Mike and Brandon joined us. Snow was cleared, but still a lil chilly! Bring bug spray!

Then we came back in late mid-late July (same year) to Shaver Lake; with Tony, Frank, David, me, Dan, and Mikes and their familie; 6-7 rigs; stayed at Dorabella Camp Group (Camp Edison, bit nicer camp ground, was sold out). Hot but not unfortable hot. Still had a blast especially the camp fire dinner with families!

Attached are photos from last June.

Pic 1 - Morning Shot of Shaver Lake
Pic 2 - Brian's G4 Climbing Bald Mtn (Sat)
Pic 3 - There's Shrek rock climbing/conquering granite slabs
Pic 4 - And Gary's LR3
Pic 5 - Goal is to reach to the Look Out Tower
Pic 6 - What a view!
Pic 7 - Coming down granite stairs
Pic 8 - Lunch at White Bark Vista (Sun); at 10,500+ elevation; it was a great high altitude steak lunch! Yummm!
Pic 9 - Sneak Peak of Dusy Ershim (hard core trail)
Pic 10 - Group photo

As far as dates for Return to Shaver Lake, I am thinking mid to late June. Let's see - we have Oregon trip scheduled May 31-June 3! And MORG first Sat in June (7th). School is out for the kids.

Friday and Saturnday nite camping; check out Sunday. Wheeling @ Bald Mounting (med diff trail) Saturday, and if time permits drive up to White Bark Vista (easy trail) and get a sneak peak @ the famous Dusy Ershim trail (difficult or hard core trail) Sunday morning; head home early afternoon.

What do you guys/gals think?

Is June good? Perhaps later in the year!

Very interested! Is Edison accessible for a pop-up tent trailer?

Edison is the bomb... Power at each site.. Just plug the dang thing in. Top quality site!

I'd be up for going with the family, future job permitting.

I'd be willing to share a spot as we will have 1 car and 2 tent cots, so if anyone else wants to share let me know. Otherwise lets get dates so and info so I can make arrangements/reservations.

I'm game if we can fit 1 pop-up tent trailer and 2 trucks in 1 camp site.:)

Yippie! Return to Shaver Lake (and Return of the Land Rovers to Bald Mountain)! :)

I agree Tony; let's get the date firmed up soon and reserv @ Camp Edison since they fill out fast!

Steven, pop-up plus 2 trucks will fit (let's look at avail sites once dates picked), and.... even RVs are allowed @ Camp Edison: http://www.sce.com/CommunityandRecreation/CampEdison/default

Mike, once you are confirmed and reserved a site, and site allows 1 or more campers (depending on the site you reserve), you can certainly share it/and split cost!

Gary, should be fun; wheeling on granite for med diff level at its best!

Brian, will miss you, but there will be next time; do hear another snow run perhaps armded w/more knowledge in deep snow wheeling/recovery! :)

Having said all these, I am looking at the weekend of June 20, 21 & 22 but there is a Moonlight Madness Run @ Bald Mountain by Clovis Independent 4x4 Club. My big concern is avail @ Edison. Both day run and night (mainly) are scheduled by this crowd - the other concern is being crowded!

The other dates are June 28, 29 and 30th.

Let me know which dates work better! And I will contact Camp Edison tomorrow, and check these two wknd date(s) choices - avail @ Camp Edison might dedicate which one of these wknd to do this run!

Ok, heading to work and will check post this eve!

C yah!

I'm so there...!

The earlier date would almost certainly be do-able, I may have a conflict on the 28th.

I think we could make this one, specially in the latter part of the month. How about a day of boating and just relaxing with a few cold ones! I might stay the whole week. Anyone else?

Hmmm,

I dont know about a whole week :D but I would certainly consider extending my stay as well.

As nice as Camp Edison is vs Dorabella e.g. clean facilities, hot showers/bathrooms..., and convenient e.g. AC power and water hook-up, some sites allow pop-up or RV (and RV hook-ups) or boat parking, etc... Camp Edison is behind in offering online reservation/payment.

But worth it!

I called today and left a msg with both dates inq for Camp Edison; waiting for responce. (Done this before) someone from Camp Edison typically will call back a day or two later and list avail sites and which dates.

Then I will let you guys know sites avail and which date works best; will review the concensus and probably look at 6-7 sites close together as possible.

Then ea of you need to fax or mail your request/payment via check or VC/MC and reference the person I talked to.

Will keep you folks posted!

Ron

Hey Dan, hope you can make it either wknd we end up picking!

Enrique/Tony, we can look-into extended stay option perhaps adding Monday and/or Tuesday day options for those wanting to stay longer on top of the scheduled trip Friday, Sat and Sun check-out especially if you have the pop-up setup already, paid for gas, etc... why not.

Will keep you guys posted!

Ron

Now we're talking almost a full house here! :)

We have Tony, Steven, Mike (job permitting), David (DCProven) maybe, Dan, Gary, David (Sasquatch), and me!

That's 8 rigs!

And I know our Fresno area locals/NCLR members Mike (Arnival), and the other Mike (Disco X) might join if they see their post!

Making it 10 rigs plus or minus 1 or 2 last min changes (expected)!

I'm thinking 10-12 rigs max! We're about 8 right now!

Still waiting for Camp Edison to call me back!

Have we nailed any dates down yet? Suzi might have to reschedule some clients.

Well,

Camp Edison reserv desk got back to me!

The Bad! Nothing avail wknd of June 20-22 (Fri-Sun check out) and June 27-29 (Fri-Sun check out also). None close to each other and none even spread out.

Only one site left and it's a group site for 60 people @ $330 per nite. Too big for our need in June perhaps as a future annl gathering.

The Good (you know me; good news after the bad): there are sites avail June 13-15 as alt date for our Return to Shaver Lake/Bald Mountain trip!

Individual range of sites avail next to each other are: 187, 189, 190, 191 and 193. All can take pop-ups; one or two can take an RV, and all can be shared! There are other indy sites here and there (not much left) avail, but spread out!

See Camp map for location: http://www.sce.com/CommunityandRecreation/CampEdison/CampMap.htm

And descriptions: http://www.sce.com/CommunityandRecreation/CampEdison/newcampdetails.htm

Need for you to do the following to help firm up June 13 as our wheeling date:

- First, decide if you can make June 13-15.

For the folks who posted here first w/interest on this trip, can you post back again and state if wknd of June 13 (Friday check-in) to June 15 (Sunday check-out) will work for you or not!

If you want to stay longer, you will need to work it out with Camp Edison once June 13th is firmed up!

Just need to know who can make June 13 so I can get a head count and gauge interest so I can submit trip request!

- Next, visit http://www.sce.com/CommunityandRecreation/CampEdison/newcampdetails.htm, and state which camp site you'd be interested in reserving. You'll be responsible for paying/settlign with Camp Ediso; knowing the site # helps me with tracking who's who and where!

For example, I don't mind staying in 193; I stayed there before! It's near the rest room and has a large BBQ/fire pit area! We can make this base camp or for our planned Fri or Sat nite BBQ dinner!

Let me know asap! Thanks!

I'm heading out to see Tony's right now for my rear bumper install! Will check this thread later and would like to firm up this date so folks can reserv their site with Camp Edison!

I'm good for that weekend. I will book my site right after you confirm which one you got Ron. Looks like it will be necessary for us all to obtain our own site.

Ron,
I PM'ed you that we cannot make it in the summer, we have June all busy already.

If for any reason we can, I'll let you know, but again, not likely.

Sorry guys!

David.

Crap! That lets me out then...that's the same weekend as the Pirate Festival in Vallejo and my group performs there, so it's a must-do for me.

It's also the weekend some of the guys are talking about a Rubicon trip...

So what time frame have we actually settled on?

RON CT110

Hey Tony, this might not be a good weekend; perhaps being a Father's Day wknd June 13-15 is not good for others. I will reach out to Camp Edison again and double check for the original wkdn: June 20 or 27.

Knowing what Camp Edison has to offer, hard to settle with the Dorabella campground.

Other option is push this back further perhaps Sept or later (July/August sold out @ Camp Edision).

No go for Shaver Lake/Bald Mtn in June. I wanted to shoot for the last wknd in June but all the sites are booked @ Camp Edison. It's the best camp site in Shaver Lake.

Some open slots @ Camp Edison Father's Day Wknd June 15 but seems to be a bad wknd for some, and my wife was hinting doing something else!

I have to re-think Shaver Lake/Bald Mtn perhaps do it later this summer/early fall; Camp Edison is booked both July/Aug. Next opening is Sept. Might not be bad; much cooler; let crowded with kids back in school. Perhaps even do Shaver Lake/Bald Mtn as alt for folks not attending the National Rally in Sept! I am open for feedbacks!

C yah!

I call foul here Ron! Don't exclude the folks that want to attend the rally. I would love to do both if the dates are not duplicate.

Sorry for the delay Ron.. We'll shoot.. I was really looking forward to Camp Edison his year. I personally am ok with Father Day Weekend.. I am a father so I can decide what I want to do with it. I know others have family and such so I know it could be difficult.

I think your just going to have to make the final decision and we will all follow. :D

Thanks Tony for your support! Too bad about June!

Gary, good point re: not excluding folks who may want to attend the rally and Shaver Lake/Bald Mtn. I will look into a diff date from Rally!

More details to come!
