I ordered the maps and have reviewed them. I am thinking Route 5, part of section 2 and all of section 1. This is a total trail distance of 257 miles - equivalent to 122 highway miles from start to finish. I am going to speak to my Oregon contact this weekend to check on road conditions in early June. For those interested attached is the route overview.
I will post more details as they emerge. Also I am looking for a co-leader.

David - any chance on approximate trip dates? Suzi and I are forgoing the National Rally to attend the Oregon trip.

I am thinking May 29th through June 3th, or June 5th throught June 10th - drive to Oregon Thursday, camp near the start. On the trail Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Drive home Tuesday.
I am waiting to talk to Rohen this weekend to finalize the dates. I want his input on how wet it will be then.
I hope to have a set date by Tuesday.

Cool. As soon as the dates are set I will ask the CEO for that time off. Thanks David.

My lobbying for selfish reasons would be for the earlier dates in June as the 10th is pushing towards my sons school graduation dates. :D

My preference is the earlier date as well, I just need to get an idea of how wet it will be from my Oregon contact.
I will let you know.

I spoke to Rohan and we decided that the May 29th through June 3th would work well. We will have sand, mud and possibily snow! I will be finalizing plans and submitting a trip sheet this coming week, so a sign-up sheet will be available soon. I think I will need to limit this to 10 trucks, so sign-up soon.
It looks like my wife and daughter will be joining me!

As of right now, I am planing on attending again this year, looking forward to getting all the planning done and following along with what you guys are doing.
For anyone who did not see, here is my little gallery of pics from last year, you might recognize some of the trucks. Also, the guy with the FJ just bought a Disco XD. http://picasaweb.google.com/bhcmrovings/NCLROregonRovers

Great pics. I almost have my truck ready for this trip, just need to swap out the TC. I missed it last year so there is no way I am missing it this year!:)

I've taken a look at the PDF map you posted and I have my first bit of input for the trip.
There is a geyser in Lakeview, just north of Goose Lake on 395. Not big, but kind of fun to look at -- it goes off every 30-45 seconds.

It is insane how much of this trip I have already been going on in my head for the past few years. Check this out in Google Earth:
43°21'38.15"N 120°39'39.52"W
That is at Crack in the Ground, which I believe has a camp site. 30 miles west is Fort Rock, which is something to see, but far out of the way of the route.
Where do you think your camp site(s) will be?
PCRover

What should I see at those coordinates? All I see is trees...

Campsite will be up to David (dbregman) as he is leading the trip. But I am sure he will be open to input!

That's a lava flow with four cinder cones, right in the middle of the desert. It's a spot that has always intrigued me. Crack in the Ground is connected to that same flow. This route is a geologist's dream. Weather could be a mixed bag from rain to snow to 60+ degrees and clear skies. It is, however, probably one of the best times of year to go on this trip. I think there should be lots of plant life in bloom.
David, how many trucks are you wanting to have on the trip? Didn't we have 7 last time?

Guess I need training on Google Earth as I don't see that at all. Sounds interesting though.

I am working on the camp sites, but am planning camping near Christmas Valley / Crack in the ground for one night.
I am going to limit the trip to 12 truck - we may split into 2 convoys during the day if we have enough HAMs to ensure communications.
We will have to figure out how to handle the Oregon folks on the trip (due to the NCLR policies). The two options are to have them as guests of NCLR members, or make it a joint trip with Oregon Rovers.
Of course if You (Ben) and Rohan joined the club - it wouldn't be an issue :D

I would suggest either a joint trip or open invitation to Oregon Club Members(out of state trips only) , since we are in their back yard. This would allow Oregon participants the ability to attend annually and get arround the one trip rule.

Don't hold a NCLR club member off from going if I'm taking the extra spot, but count me in to meet up with you at some point as long as there is room!
David, just by what has been said so far, it looks like the Dunes or Crack in the Ground might be the spot I would plan on meeting. I can't speak for Ro, but I would bet he is thinking along the same lines based on how easy it would be to get to those two spots from Bend.

The starting point should be very easy for you guys. It is about 90 miles East of Bend on Hwy 20. It would be great if you can meet us there (we will probally camp near Glass Butte Thursday night). I hope to have the route broken out by day done soon.
Any ideas on camping near Glass Butte would be great.

I think the Dunes is actually an OHV area that would have a camp ground.
Let's see... Here (http://www.oohva.org/)
And other than that, most of the land around there is BLM or other federal land that should be campable.

Please no OHV Campgrounds! I would like some solitude on this trip, not a bunch of yahoo's in there sand rigs drinking and partying all night.

 10 hour drive! LOL... :D sounds good to me! I will need to leave about 5:00am and you guys can catch up to me. Traveling with a toddler, I am going to break up the day with plenty of stops.;)

Looks like timing will be bad for me as my daughter is too young to bring without Mom and Mom will still be in school and her kids will need her right to the end....
Maybe I'll get a week off later in the summer and run it alone....
