LR Rocklin just e-mailed me and said I get a new ZF tranny under warranty. The torque converter was locking up erratically. Woohooo!
What happened was for the past 6 months, when I started the D2 after work and drove maybe a mile til a stop light, the rpms would fall for a moment and return to normal. It was bugging me, no OBD codes, LR Rocklin checked it out and replaced the tranny ECU and it worked fine for a day or two. The rpm drop started again, now it was really starting to bug me. Rocklin techs and LR tech finally decided it was the tranny. It's on order.
I hope the problem is solved..
FYI 2004D2 32k mi. final "free" warranty service is due in Mar/Apr this yr.
